About the project

Offer rehabilitation therapy to children and adolescents with disabilities and neurodivergences in therapy rooms with high-tech robots and suitable environments, designed to improve motor, cognitive and social skills and help them overcome barriers, achieve effective inclusion in society and lead a dignified life.

Objective

  • This project aims to offer rehabilitation therapies to children and adolescents with disabilities and neurodivergences.
  • By setting up rehabilitation therapy rooms with high-tech robots and suitable environments, designed to improve motor, cognitive and social skills, the project will help these children overcome barriers and achieve effective inclusion in society and a dignified life.
  • The project will meet the growing needs of northern Veracruz, northern Puebla, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala and will provide an accessible, personalized solution for each beneficiary.

Long-term aspiration: the project seeks to establish a replicable model of care for children with disabilities, allowing advanced technologies to be integrated into rehabilitation centers worldwide.

Robotics in child rehabilitation has proven to be an effective tool, as it stimulates cognitive and motor areas in a playful, interactive way. These innovative solutions not only complement traditional therapies but also increase their impact by creating emotional connections with children, improving adherence to treatment.

"Future in Motion: Robotic Rehabilitation for Inclusion and Development" seeks to transform the lives of 1,150 children and adolescents with disabilities and neurodivergences in northern Veracruz, northern Puebla, Hidalgo and Tlaxcala through advanced, personalized therapies that promote their inclusion and holistic development. The number of therapy hours for beneficiaries may be increased by up to 10% each year.

In Latin America, millions of children with disabilities face barriers to accessing education and rehabilitation, which limits their opportunities.

The project will use innovative technologies such as the TOi Robot® and the Nao robot, designed to stimulate the senses and improve motor, cognitive and social skills.

Through playful activities and interactive therapies, children will be able to connect better with the world around them, increasing their motivation and participation in their rehabilitation.

The Nao robot, with its ability to interact visually, verbally and through touch, creates an emotional bond that makes learning easier, while the TOi Robot® stimulates six of the seven human senses, optimizing treatment.

These inclusive tools are adapted to different ages and conditions, so that each child receives the support they need to reach their full potential.

The project will not only improve the children's quality of life but will also have a positive impact on their families and community, creating a more inclusive and equitable environment.

Project design

  • Procurement and installation of the TOi® and Nao® robotic systems.
  • Setup and equipping of the robotic therapy room at CRIT Veracruz.
  • Specialized, intensive training for therapists in the clinical and therapeutic use of robotic technology.
  • Delivery of personalized robotic therapy for 1,150 children with disabilities.
  • Community outreach and awareness activities to promote inclusion and the role of technology in rehabilitation.
  • Ongoing monitoring of outcomes and quarterly evaluation of the beneficiaries' progress to ensure impact and continuous improvement.

Sustainability

CRIT runs an annual fundraising campaign specifically aimed at sustaining its operations and the maintenance of specialized equipment, including the robotic therapy units introduced by this project.

CRIT may charge a small fee for some therapy sessions, which can be partially covered by government funds. These fees represent only a fraction of the actual cost, and the income will be reinvested directly in the maintenance, training and operation of the robotic therapy program.

Partner organizations

  • CRIT: the partnership will not only enhance the project's impact but also strengthen its legitimacy, reach and long-term sustainability.
